BILL MACKENZIE 1946 – 2016
William (Bill) passed away
in Comox, British Columbia on Sunday, August 21 at the
age of 70 after a
two year struggle with cancer. Bill is survived by his wife Catherine;
his older brother David (and his wife Wendy) of Parksville, BC, and his
younger
brother Duncan (and his children, Nicholas and Charlotte) of
Delta, BC; his two sons
Scott and Duncan, and Duncan's wife Laura and
their two kids, Bill's grandchildren
Connor and Jada. Bill was
predeceased by his twin brother John, who passed in 2002.
Bill was born
in Glasgow, Scotland before immigrating to Canada in 1950 with his
parents and two brothers. He attended Nutana Collegiate until 1962.
While in high school,
Bill, a talented athlete, set records as a member
of the Saskatoon Kiwanis Track and Field
Club, and also played for the
Hilltops Junior Football team. After high school, Bill worked
for the
Saskatoon Public Library 'bookmobile'. The job suited him; he enjoyed
the elderly
folks who frequented the library and they enjoyed the young,
good- looking football player
who took an interest in them and their
reading preferences. It was during this time that he
met his first wife,
Diana Crawford. In 1968, Bill went through training in Regina for the
RCMP, which turned out to be his true calling. Over a distinguished
career, spanning 35
years of service across posts in both BC and
Manitoba, Bill worked with many people who
would become his lifelong
friends. Bill worked his last 10 years on the Force at 'D' division
headquarters in Winnipeg, MB, before retiring in 2005. Following in the
footsteps of his
parents and three brothers, he quickly moved out to BC.
In 2005 he married Catherine R.
Johnson, from Jacksonville, Florida.
They started a new chapter in their lives by the ocean
in Comox, BC on
Vancouver Island. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations
be made to a charity of your choice.
